मंदीर यही बनायेंगे !

बाबरी मस्जीद-राम मंदीर प्रकरण ऐकले की अमेरिकेतले लोक आपल्याला हसत असत. त्यांना वाटे एवढया पुढारलेल्या काळात काय हे लोक धर्माचा बाऊ करून बसताहेत. पण आता त्यांचाच मटका बसलाय. कारण ज्या वर्ल्ड ट्रेड सेंटरला आतंकवाद्यांनी जमीनदोस्त केले त्याच झीरो ग्राऊंडवर मशीद उभारण्याचा प्रस्ताव मुस्लिम समाजाकडून आला आहे. अगदीच त्याच जागी नसले तरी दोन कि.मी. अंतरावर मशीद व इतर स्मारक म्हणजे अमेरिकेच्या सहनशीलतेची कसोटीच आहे.

अमेरिकेचे नवीन अध्यक्ष बराक ओबामा हे मधल्या नावाने मुसलमान आहेत ह्याचा अमेरिकेला भारी अभिमान होता. त्यात मुस्लिम समाजाशी सौजन्याचे धोरण ठेवत ओबामांनी पहिलेच भाषण कैरोत करीत जे सौहार्दाचे आवाहन केले ते तर फारच प्रभावी होते. आता हेच आवाहन त्यांच्या अंगलट येत आहे. ज्या मुल्लाने एकेकाळी सीआयए ला मदत केली तोच आता ह्या मशीदीसाठी परवानगी मागतो आहे व मुस्लिमांच्या द्वेषाला अमेरिकाच जबाबदार आहे असे म्हणतोय. म्हणजे परत तो ज्यास्त प्रभावी धार्मिक बनला आहे. आता अमेरिका म्हणते आहे की तुम्हाला तुमची मशीद उभारण्याचा हक्क जरूर आहे पण इथेच का, व ह्यामागे कोणाचे पैसे आहेत तेही पाहिले पाहिजे.

ह्यासंदर्भात अयान हिरसी अली ह्या विदुषीचे मत आहे की तुम्ही कितीही आव आणलात तरी हटिंग्टन ने म्हटल्यासारखे मुस्लिम व ख्रिश्चन ह्या दोन संस्कृतींचाच हा लढा आहे. क्लॅश ऑफ सिव्हिलाइझेशन्स . अयान हिरसी अलीचे नोमॅड नावाचे स्वानुभाववरचे एक पुस्तक नुकतेच आले आहे. त्यात ती आफ्रिकेतून अमेरिकेपर्यंत कशी लढत आली व स्त्रियांवर अजूनही मुस्लिम समाजात कसे अत्याचार होताहेत ह्यासंबंधी अनुभवाचे बोल आहेत. तिच्या म्हणण्याप्रमाणे अमेरिकेतले सुधारलेले मुस्लिमही कोवळ्या मुलींची बेधडक सुन्ता करतात, फक्त कबूल करीत नाहीत. तिने एका ख्रिश्चन मिशनर्‍याला म्हटले आहे की तुम्ही भले धर्मांतरे नका करू पण मुस्लिम समाजाला जरा मवाळ करण्यासाठी ठोस व ठाम पावले उचलायला हवीत. नाही तर मुस्लिम समाज असाच धर्मवेडा राहील.

ग्राऊंड झीरो जवळ मशीद का नको त्याचे दृश्य कारण हे लोक असे देतात की धार्मिक सामंजस्याचे प्रतीक वाटण्यापेक्षा इस्लामच्या हिंसेच्या विजयोन्मादाचे ते ज्यास्त प्रतीक ठरेल. लॉस एंजेल्सला एक म्युझियम आहे, "सिमोन विझेंथॉल" ह्यांच्या नावाने. हे आहे म्युझियम ऑफ टॉलरन्स, सहनशीलतेचे संग्रहालय. तशी सहनशीलता आजकाल संग्रहालयात ठेवण्याचीच वस्तु झाली आहे. आपण पाहतोच की व्यवहार्य कारणांसाठी युरोपात सुद्धा अनेक ठिकाणी बुरख्यावर बंदी आणली आहे कारण धर्मापेक्षा स्त्रीला मानाचे प्रतीक करणे त्या त्या सरकारांना ज्यास्त महत्वाचे वाटते.

अमेरिकेत व्यवहारी असण्याला ज्यास्त महत्व आहे. सध्या कॅलिफोर्नियात एक प्रपोजल २३ नावाचे विधायक मतदानासाठी येत आहे. पूर्वी कबूल केलेले पर्यावरणाचे आकडे तूर्त बेकारी सुधरेपर्यंत लागू होऊ नयेत नाही तर उद्योग परत बाहेर जातील असा हा प्रस्ताव आहे व बर्‍याच मोठ्या कंपन्या ह्यासाठी करोडो खर्च करीत आहेत. म्हणजे पहा पर्यावरणाच्या विरुद्ध जाताना अमेरिकेला काही वाटत नाही कारण ते त्यांच्या व्यवहाराचे आहे.

भारतासाठी तर हे फारच महत्वाचे धोरण ठरावे. कारण भारतात मुस्लिम व हिंदू हाच संस्कृतींचा झगडा आहे. आणि हिंदू त्यांच्यातल्या असंख्य प्रवाहांमुळे फारच मवाळ तर मुळातच मुस्लिम ज्यास्त धर्मवेडे. मुस्लिमांच्याच भल्यासाठी हिंदूंनी ज्यास्त धर्मकठोर होणे जरूरीचे आहे. अर्थात त्यांची (मुस्लिमांची ) आर्थिक स्थिती, नोकरी व्यवसाय, संबंधी उदारमतवादी धोरण ठेवावेच लागेल. पण धार्मिक बाबीत हिंदूंनी आग्रही होणे आवश्यक ठरणारे आहे.

त्यासाठी बाबरी मस्जीद प्रकरणात माघार न घेता ठणकाऊन "राम मंदीर"चा मुद्दा लावून धरायला हवा, त्याच्याशिवाय मुस्लिम मवाळ होणार नाहीत, असे अमेरिकेतले उदारमतवादी धोरण पाहता वाटायला लागले आहे. इथले जनमत वर्ल्ड ट्रेड सेंटर जवळ मशीद होऊ देण्याच्य़ा पार विरुद्ध आहे व ते तसे ठणकावून सांगू लागले आहेत. मुस्लिमांना मवाळ होण्याचा हा चांगला मार्ग आहे !

Raam Mandir Due to America !

Americans used to laugh at our age old issues of Babri Masjid--Raam Mandir thinking that we are not sufficiently secular as they think they are. But things are turning topsy turvy for them. A proposal for a Masjid near the ruins of World Trade Center ( Ground Zero ) has come up and has become the talking point all over America. And it is slowly revealing the thin veil of Secularism that America is presently wearing .
America, no doubt, accepts that Muslims have a right to have their place of worship wherever they want but having it so near to ground zero does not meet with their approval. Though the Mulla concerned was so friendly at one time that he used to help CIA but now they are questioning the sources of funds and the propriety of having the Masjid so near to Ground Zero. Now perhaps it is the rest of the world's turn to see the true colours of American Secularism.
In this context the views of Ayaan Hirsee Ali are quite interesting. She is presently in news due to her recent book "Nomad", which is her personal story of plight from Africa to America and tortures of Islaam. She is conceding in one interview that ultimately it is a clash of civilisations ( as claimed by famous book of Huttington's "Clash of Civilisations") and for the sake of Muslims she pleads that Cristians should show a strong posture which in her opinion will help Islaam to reduce ill-treatment to women. She tells us that even in America the so called educated muslims force circumcision on their girls though they do not admitt it.

One reason Americans give for opposing the mosque near Ground Zero, is that it will appear more as a symbol of victory of Islaam's violent acts, than the tolerance of Americans. In this context it is interesting to note that there is a Museum at Los Angels in the name of Simon Wiesenthal on the subject of "Tolerance". If we look around we may find that these days tolerance is a thing to be found in musems alone. Govts in Europe have already boldly banned the veil for Muslim ladies as they think it liberates them to the level of the freedom of other ladies, which these govts. value more important than relegious identity.
America has a tradition of foregoing what is ethical and ideal for the immediate and practical. Presently they are bringing a proposition-23 in California, by which they want to go back on the committed environmental values till the present un-employment rate goes sufficiently down. Big companies are openly spending money to say no to this proposal lest industries flee out of the state.

This line of thought of Ayaan Hirsee Ali is interesting on the background of India's cronic problem of Hindu-Muslim relations. We had been given to accept very low levels of religiousness, thinking that this could be called as secularism of Hindus and will help Muslims also to reduce their strong religious fervour. But history tells us that it has not. Perhaps Muslims must be viewing it as weakness of Hindus. Hence it is worth a try to be more agressive for Hindus and perhaps demand the Ram Mandir. Seeing the way of the world's most secular society i.e, american society is behaving boldly towards Muslims it is worth trying for Indian Hindus to adopt a stronger stance in the context of Hindu-Muslim relations !
