१७ खून माफ !
    "टाइम" मॅगझीनच्या कव्हरवर फोटो येणे हे फार थोर्थोरपणाचे नक्कीच आहे. तसे आजकाल कित्येकांना आपला फोटो कुठे येऊ नये असे वाटत असते ( जसे सोनिया गांधी कोणत्या उपचारांसाठी कोणत्या अमेरिकन इस्पितळात गेल्या त्याचा फोटो, किंवा राहूल गांधी सध्या कुठल्या वधु-संशोधनाला कोणत्या देशात गेले आहेत त्याचा फोटो...). अशात नरेंद्र मोदींचा फोटो "टाइम" मासिकावर यावा हे मोठे कौतुकाचे आहे.
    आपल्याकडे जी भावना सामान्यात असते की एक जरी चांगले काम कोणाकडून घडले असेल तर त्याच्या १७ खुनांना माफी मिळू शकते, त्याच गोशवार्‍याचा मजकूर वरील "टाइम"च्या अंकात वाचायला मिळतो. त्यात एका नवीन प्रकरणाबद्दल वाचायला मिळते. ते असे: एक ४२ मिलियन डॉलरचे रस्ता-बांधणीचे टेंडर असते. त्यात आय-आर-बी नावाची कंपनी भाग घेते. त्यांचा चीफ कोणी विरेंद्र म्हैसकर म्हणून आहे तो म्हणतो, सबंध टेंडर प्रक्रिया व कंत्राट देणे हा सगळा कारभार ऑनलाईन झाला व तो सर्वांना उपलब्ध होता. एवढे मोठे कंत्राट मिळाले, पण ना कोणाला चहापाणी, एवढेच काय कोण मेयर होता तेही आम्हाला माहीत झाले नाही. पारदर्शकपणे सरकारी कामे कशी व्हावीत ह्याचा हा आदर्श नमूना म्हणायला हवा.
    नरेंद्र मोदी हे शिक्षणाने अगदी सामान्य शिक्षण घेतलेले गृहस्थ आहेत. ते कुठल्याही कॉलेजात गेलेले नाहीत. ह्या उलट सोनिया गांधी व राहूल गांधी हे केव्हा हार्वर्ड विद्यापीठात जाऊन उच्च शिक्षण घेऊन आले ते संशोधन करण्याचाच विषय होईल. इतके असूनही शिक्षणाचा मरातब नरेंद्र मोदींनी इतका राखलाय की त्यांनी सगळ्या सरकारी अधिकार्‍यांना आठवड्यातून एक दिवस आणि तेही फक्त एक तास, वाचनासाठी ठेवला आहे. त्यांनी त्या दिवशी कुठल्याही जवळच्या ग्रंथालयात जाऊन एक तास वाचावे, असा नियम केलेला आहे. आणि ह्या नियमाचे काटेकोर पालनही होते. अधिकार्‍याला आपण कुठे जाऊन वाचणार आहोत व काय वाचले त्याचा तपशीलवार अहवाल द्यावा लागतो. वाचनाचा इतका मरातब कोणत्याही सत्पुरुषाने असा कधी केला नसेल.
    आज भारतीय संस्कृतीची प्रत्यही इतकी पडझड होत असताना, एक राजकीय व्यक्ती, जी कोणत्याही हार्वर्डची पदवी नसलेली आहे, तिने वाचन-संस्कृतीच्या उद्धारासाठी इतका आटोकाट प्रयत्न करावा हे अपार कौतुकाचे आहे. आणि ह्या एकाच सत्कर्मासाठी आपण ह्या नरेंद्र मोदींना १७ खून माफ करायला हवेत !

17 Murders Condoned !
    Now a days our politicians fear of their photo appearing in any media. That explains why no body could publish the photo of Sonia Gandhi taking treatment in some American Hospital. So also we do not have photo of Rahul Gandhi, who presently may have gone abroad, bride-hunting ! On such a background if Narendra Modi's photo appears on TIME magazine, one has to give him all the kudos !
    We have a popular feeling residing in the minds of common people that if our leaders do one good act, we can condone their 17 murders. So rare is the good work to see these days. One is fully aware of various development stories that Narendra Mody has implimented in Gujarat. One gets to read, one more, in this TIME issue. One CEO of an Infrastructure company by name IRB tells us how they participated in a tender for some road-work worth 42 million $ and how the whole process was available to all, online. They did not have to give even tea & snacks to anybody. In fact this CEO, ( Mr. Virender Mhaiskar ) tells how he even did not know the name of the mayor concerned. This should serve as a model lesson to all beurocrats on transparent working in the Government.
    Narendra Modi had a very ordinary education, the interview tells us. This is unlike the great pains Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi take in convincing us that they are Harward educated. This should be a subject for research for many as to when these Gandhis had done this learning at Harward. Based on this insistance of Grandly educated, Narendra Modi openly confesses that he did not go to any college. But inspite of not gettting any prestigious education, it seems he is striving for maintaining the prestige of education in his State. He has made a rule for his officers that they must spend at least one hour every week, in reading. They have to declare in advance which nearest Library they will go to and read and later have to report on what they read in that one hour. No person in Indian Polity has given so much importance to reading !
    In today's times when we daily see the signs of collapse of our culture all around us, it is so heartening that someone is caring to develop the reading culture. And for this one good deed alone, we may condone Mr.Modi for 17 murders that he may or may not have committed in the past !
